In June 2007 YWCA/La Strada Belarus was informed to be awarded with UNIFEM (German Committee) price for best anti-trafficking project in Eastern Europe. The award is 10,000 Euro that has been shared with another price-winner – project “Maiti” from Nepal. La Strada Belarus was supported and recommended for price by German NGO “Ban Ying”. Two projects were selected among 100 submitted applications.

On the 21st of November, 2007 UNIFEM award ceremony took place in Bonn. The press-conference was organized at Deutsche Welle Radio, where presentation of both winning projects has been given.

The award ceremony itself took place the same day in the House of History (Haus der Geschichte) in Bonn. The event has been supported by Bonn municipality and local charitable organizations. Deputy Major of the city has attended the ceremony and provided welcoming speech. Ms. Barbara Adams, Programme Director UNIFEM New York, highlighted UNIFEM work against gender-based violence and links between violence against women and human trafficking. Presentational film was showed, describing UNIFEM interventions all over the world, including support provided for La Strada Ukraine in past.

Thematic panel discussion was organized with participation of representatives of European Union Member of Parliament, chief police officer of the Federal Criminal Police and Federal Ministry of Family and Women’s Affairs. Later, winners have shortly presented their projects and UNIFEM Certificates have been awarded.

The event was attended by over 200 people of UNIFEM partners, German anti-trafficking NGOs, Belarusian embassy’s representative, donors, journalists and general public.
